Vertizontical Studios is me, and I am Ryan Clare. I am a web designer, graphic designer, motion-graphics designer, animator, video editor, sculptor, and musician. I am both an artist and a technician, blending creative abilities with technical skills. This is a concept that I did for BikeHubStore.com. BikeHubStore.com needed an upgrade, so the owner came to me looking for a fresh appealing new look along with a new logo. I designed a stylish sporty looking site with an enhanced homepage featuring a product rotator and snifty drop-down menus. The logo is clever (at least that’s what I’m telling myself) because I made the “H” a front-on view of a bike hub, spokes and all!

This is a site that I did for NCWARN. NCWARN is helping to try to stop a bill that the big power companies in North Carolina are trying to pass to allow them to jack their rates up every year to pay for unnecessary power plants that may or may not even be built. This site is a place for NCWARN to collect articles and information regarding the bill and their efforts to stop it. I built the site on the WordPress platform to make it easily editable by the NCWARN staff. They were looking for a patriotic theme, and a way to show some “Key Points” on the homepage. I built a cool “slider” to display the “Key Points” using jQuery. I also designed the logo.

I designed this site for Amanda Brazel, a marketing expert in Chapel Hill, NC. Her client, Greg Martel, one of the top mortgage brokers in Canada, needed an updated look for his website. I created this very professional, clean design, and utilized WordPress as a content management system to allow Amanda and Greg’s staff to easily update and edit the site. I also created another site for Greg Martel’s coaching business.

This is a site that I did for Amanda Brazel, a marketing expert in Chapel Hill, NC. Her client, Greg Martel is one of the top mortgage brokers in Canada. She asked me to design a new website and logo for his coaching business, where he teaches other mortgage brokers how to be successful. I created a very classy, professional look, and built the site using WordPress so that Amanda and Greg’s staff can easily edit and update the site as needed. I also created a new look for Greg’s business website, Harbour View Mortgages.

This was such a fun site to design! I was given illustrations of robots and gears and asked to make a clean, fun looking site that would appeal to both kids and parents. I mixed the sketches into a clean layout with “techie” graphics. I also spiced up the header with rotating gears using CSS animation (only supported in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox 5 or higher). I also built a custom registration form that stores user input in a database for the site owner.

This is a site that I designed and built for Chariot Creative. The client had an outdated site and wanted something clean and modern. I used the Nivo Slider to create the slideshow on the homepage. Along with some custom scripts I was able to connect the slideshow to the navigation on the side so that rolling over a link would bring up the appropriate image and pause the slideshow.

This is a site that I designed for Chariot Creatvie. It is running on a content management system made for managing auction websites called SimpleAuctionSite. This was a redesign of an existing site. The client wanted a fresh look but something simple. I modernized the existing site and created a cleaner and more consistent layout.

Durham People’s Alliance

The Durham People’s Alliance is a non-profit in Durham NC dedicated to providing citizen’s in Durham information about important issues in the city. They wanted to revamp their website with a modern, progressive look, and an easy to use content management system to better organize their site. I provided both the design and development of the site. I built the site on WordPress so that they can easily publish news content and manage their informational pages.

This is an incomplete site that I designed for a local hunting supplies dealer using the Volusion e-commerce platform. I’ve posted a static version of the homepage here just as an example of my design work. All of the links point to the non-working site, but the homepage shows the overall style that I developed. I had fun creating a grungy look, which is a little different than my typical style. The Volusion platform makes it difficult to create a completely customized design, so I used a ton of CSS3 selectors to gain access to elements of the site that I would not have otherwise been able to style. It was a lot of work but paid off in the end. I also did most of the product photography for the site. You can see some of the photos I took below.
